Director of Grants Foundation and Individual GivingAt this
important moment in its history, Girl Scouts of Southeastern
Michigan is seeking a Director of Grants, Foundation and Individual
Giving to secure funding from corporate partners, foundations,
trusts, and government agencies through preparation and submission
of grant proposals and sponsorship solicitations. The position is
also responsible for managing elements of the grantor relationship
for long-term growth, including appropriate reporting and
stewardship activities.Responsibilities
- Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward foundations, trusts,
businesses and government agencies to secure funding.
- Work with the Chief Philanthropy Officer to identify,
cultivate, solicit, and steward individual donors for donations of
$2,000 and more.
- Develop and maintain key long-term relationships with
funders.
- Collaborate with the Chief Philanthropy Officer to identify a
portfolio of partners with capacity to make five and six-figure or
more grants with and without restrictions.
- Research, write, prepare, and submit proposals and grant
applications on a timely basis, to appropriate funding
sources.
- Compose letters of inquiry, concept papers, and essential
documents to support the grant seeking process.
- Collaborate with programs team members to accurately report to
grantors on post-award activities, both programmatic and
financial.
- Maintain schedule of application deadlines, reporting deadlines
and expenditures.
- Host personal visits with prospects.
- Conduct research, prospecting, and solicitation through
multiple platforms and sources.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date donor tracking and record
keeping.
- Assist with other fundraising projects as requested and other
duties as assigned.Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in relevant field is required.
- 3 years of professional grant-writing experience at a
nonprofit, including demonstrated success writing grants that have
resulted in five-figure and higher grants.
- Experience managing relationships.
- Experience securing donor designated gifts and unrestricted
gifts.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be
considered.
- Proven success in development for a mid-sized nonprofit
including fundraising from multiple donor channels.
- Experience with relational databases and web-related research
tools.
- Ability to compile, interpret and present program and financial
information.
- Planning, leading, and managing development projects, including
coordinating with peers to achieve desired outcomes, and tracking
and reporting on progress to senior managers/board of
directors.
- Takes initiative and actively seeks to deepen current funder
relationships and to forge new ones.
- Skilled in creating powerful, compelling written and oral
communications for fundraising.
- Ability to convey complex ideas through brief, simple
materials.
- Demonstrate attention to detail, superior organizational
skills, solid proofreading and editing skills.
- Effective at working with others to reach common goals and
objectives.
- Skilled at establishing and cultivating strong relationships
with peers, across different levels of the organization and
externally.
- Annual Girl Scout membership is required.
